Best fish shop in NZ?
One of the pleasures in returning to Nelson has been the chance to buy good quality seafood at reasonable prices. That was something we certainly could not do in Christchurch. Try as we might, we never came across a shop down there that had fish of consistent good quality. The range of species was very much smaller as well. Our local fish shop is called “Guyton’s“, down on the waterfront less than a 10 minute walk away.
Blessing of the fleet
Last weekend we had an unusual event here in Nelson: the annual “Blessing of the Fleet”. Nelson is still an important focus for New Zealand’s seafood industry and locals understand its importance. This ceremony, which has been going for 10 years now, remembers those lost at sea and offers prayers for the safety of the fleet. On an unusual grey day, more than 3000 people turned out.
