It’s the time of year when the private jets and super yachts come to Nelson. They’re very discreet, We hear the planes, but only for a few moments. Unlike the occasional houseboats, from which the sound of parties can sometimes disturb a quiet evening, the superyachts don’t produce a lot of noise. They do look impressive! Here’s an example from a couple of days ago:
I have to confess that I’m not sure that an 85ft boat qualifies as a ‘ superyacht’. It certainly does in my book. Nautical Web describe it as a ‘small large’ motoryacht. I like its Italian lines:
I imagine it’s quite a nice way to tour the Nelson waterfront:
All they needed was for a few dolphins or orca to start trailing their boat. I’m sure they’ll get that when they go through French Pass.
I was interested to find that in just a few seconds with the help of the Internet it was possible to find out quite a lot about this boat design. It is Italian, an ‘Azimut 85 Ultimate’. Here’s a review with lots of pictures. Like to buy one? Here’s one going for around $NZ3 million. Seems very reasonable.
