Mud play – Waiotapu

Sorry for the gap in posts – I’ve been busy on a photographic road trip without regular access to the web.  I also travel with an old laptop that, while very useful, is no substitute for my ‘digital darkroom at home. But here is something to keep you interested until I get some of the other images processed.

I visited a couple of the geothermal areas around Rotorua.  Locals had suggested I check out a mud pool close to Waiotapu, known as the ‘Frog Pool’.  It was great advice!  Here’s an example:

The mud was beautiful, fluid and plastic at the same time.  I preferred the smaller vents, they kept their shape better.  Time spent focusing on just one group of steam vents yielded a variety of different images:

More geothermal images soon!
