11 Aug 2010Last year I spent several months commuting, spending the working week in Christchurch and returning to Nelson at weekends. I stayed just across the road from the art gallery, so was able to spend quite a few evenings there. It’s an interesting building, difficult to do justice to in photographs. Here is a more creative example, just to get your attention:

The building sits alongside busy Montreal Street. Looking at this photograph, I realised that I should have cloned out the horrible apartment building overlooking the gallery. I quite liked the car though.
At the time these photographs were taken there was a fair bit of construction activity going on. I loved the contrast between the largest outdoor sculptures and the construction cranes.
Those giant crescents work really well.
The glass frontage does make for some interesting images:
The outlook from inside the building:
This bridge connects several galleries:
Finally, a water feature outside creates a lot of interest amongst passers-by (but I found incredibly difficult to photograph well).
