Cape Rienga

This year I intend to include regular posts of my images, along with some background descriptions.  Why not start in the very far north:  Cape Rienga?   The approaches to this northernmost point in New Zealand are characterised by wonderful beaches, beautiful coves like this:

I came across a fantastic aid for planning photographic field trips: The Photographer’s Ephemeris by Stephen Trainor.  This neat tool combines with Google Maps to display not only sunrise and sunset times, but also where it will be rising and setting. Here’s an example, for my hometown Nelson:

We heard on the news last night that the confrontation between Japanese whaling boats and protesters had resulted in a collision and the possible loss of the ‘Ady Gil’ This very unusual boat was in Nelson half a year ago, when she was known as ‘Earthrace’.

This annual event has been going for almost 20 years now and attracts motorcycle racers from all over New Zealand. Here are some pics from yesterday:
